It is one of the dwarf cichlids more tolerant when it comes to water parameters. In the aquarium, they can be perfectly maintained with pH between 6-7 and hardness between 5-8 º dGH. The temperature should be between 26 and 30 ºC. It is essential to have an efficient biological filtration, followed by weekly water changes of 30%.
Besides the difference in size between males and females, females’ dorsal fins exhibit one or more ocelli (vary with the population). Males fin don´t have ocelli and are more pointed. In addition, females are more colourful, and may present a more rounded belly and a pinkish appearance, especially when they are ready to lay.
Males can reach 14 cm and females 10 cm.
